Turning Point
Since I'm running the Yonkers Marathon in 7 weeks, if I do as well as I hope to do, then I'll point to the past few days as being the turning point to success. I needed to get a good long run in this past Saturday and I did. This week will also be important. I did go out and run 7 miles today and felt strong. My right foot that was sore over the weekend didn't bother me. The biggest change has been my frame of mind. Now I'm looking forward to the challenge of the marathon. I was starting to dread the training. Not anymore and I'm ready to go. All in the moment.

Sunday Bicycle
The weather this afternoon turned out to be really nice so I took the bicycle out for a ride. I went about 18 miles. A nice way to finish the week of cross training.
My Right Foot
The back of my right foot is sore. I thought about going out and running this morning but I don't want to push it. I think if I do anything today it would be on my bike. The weather isn't looking all that good though. It was cloudy and humid when I ran yesterday morning and then there were severe thunder storms later in the day. I will be doing weights and stretching this morning. I need to heal the heel.

15 Miles
I ran 15 miles today and it felt like a long distance training run. I'm running the Yonkers Marathon in 8 weeks and now is the time I put in the work. I've been doing an O.K. job with training this year. I find myself breaking a marathon into 3 parts. The first 9 miles, the second 9 miles and the last 8.2 miles. The first 9 miles always feels like I'm just warming up. I go at an easy pace for me. The second 9 miles is about trying to keep up the steady pace I want to go at. And then the last 8.2 miles end up feeling like a battle of attrition. When I've run a marathon well, those last several miles are like a countdown to the finish. My main goal is to finish under 4 hours and a training run like this morning will help to finishing the marathon strong.

Job
I don't talk about my job too much since I'm in the hotel industry. It's based on confidentiality and giving the guests the best in hospitality. I try to take a creative approach to my work. It has elements of theater where the Front Desk can be a stage. People, places & things. Very noun of me.

Running Shoes
With 8 weeks to go for my running in the Yonkers Marathon, I'm thinking about getting a new pairs of sneakers. I like the ones I have now. They are light and I've had good results in my races this year with them. But the soles of the the running shoes are very firm and I'm thinking I need more flexibility for my heels. I have seen a pair of sneakers at the sporting goods store that I really like so if they have it in my size then I might just get them.

Qualified
I ran a 10K race in Central Park, New York City this morning in a time of 45:46. It wasn't a bad time given the fact that it was humid. I think that slowed me down a bit. When I crossed the Finish Line I officially qualified for the 2013 New York City Marathon. As a member of New York Road Runners if I run 9 qualifying races and volunteer at a NYRR event, then I get into the big 26.2-Mile dance. This race today was the last thing I needed to do to gain entry. This is the 5th time in 8 years I've qualified for the NYC Marathon. One of the biggest accomplishment of my running life. Now I need to get ready for the Yonkers Marathon in September.

Race Tomorrow
I'll be in New York City tomorrow for a 10K Race. It will take place in Central Park and my over/under finishing time is 46 minutes. I feel fit and hope to even get under 45 minutes. I've never done that in Central Park and I've run several 10K races there. If the race were today it would have been wet. The weather for tomorrow call for a partly cloudy day around 80 degrees. Nice conditions for a Summer race. When I cross the Finish Line I will have qualified for the 2013 New York City Marathon. It will be the 5th time I've done that. I'll have pasta for dinner tonight.

3 In 1 Day
Thought I would put another post up. Actually, the last post I wrote over a week ago and never put online so I put it up this morning. It's raining outside. I might go out and draw the day later on. It is still very humid. It seems the heatwave will break by time the weekend arrives. I don't mind this weather. I like it when it's warm.
Did It All
It's a pretty good thing if you were able to do everything you wanted to. Always going through life and making the right decisions. Never making a mistake. What's there to regret right? You did what you wanted to. That wouldn't be a life I would know.
Qualify
I'm running in a 10K race on Saturday and finishing it will qualify me for the 2013 New York City Marathon. This will be the 5th time I've qualified this marathon. I'm thinking more about the race this weekend and trying to run as fast as I can. I plan on running several miles this morning. I'll have to head out early because the weather is hot and the air quality won't be good later in the day. The weather forecast for this weekend is calling for temperatures in the low 80's. Perfect running conditions. I'm just a few days away.

Aluminum Bat
Here are the lyrics to a new song I wrote:
ALUMINUM BAT
When I was in Little League
I would use an aluminum bat
Shiny metal I would see
Keep your eye on the ball now Pat
I would wait for the pitcher to throw
Swinging the bat and hitting the ball
Out of the batters box I would go
Hoping the ball goes over the wall
It bounces off the left field fence
A stand up double is what I get
Copper, chrome, crimson, black
Colors of the aluminum bats.

Friday The 13th
With the way things have been going for me lately, I might actually have some good luck on this Friday the 13th. Not that things have been bad. It's just that I've missed a couple of great gig this month. I didn't get the chance to see Roger Waters perform THE WALL last week at Yankee Stadium and Phil Lesh is performing a sold out gig in Woodstock at Levon Helm's Ramble. I just want to go to every great show I can. Oh well, as The Rolling Stones say, "You can't always get what you want." I'll keep trying to get as much as I can and hope to carry a little luck with me too.

Out There
I did go out there and run 7 miles today. Nice weather outside. I felt slow since I didn't run or ride my bicycle yesterday. I have been doing more stretching & weights. Sit ups and side ups are becoming more of a routine. I need to tighten up the muscles in my entire midsection. Keep on working out.

25 Miles
I stopped being lazy enough to go out this late afternoon and ride my bicycle. The weather was great! I didn't know how far I would go and ended up riding 25 miles. A strong way to end the exercise week. I may or may not run tomorrow morning. It all depends on how I feel. Monday has been my day off from running and riding. Busy day tomorrow.

Riding & Running
Yesterday I took my bicycle out and rode 16 miles. This morning I went out and ran 7 miles. Tomorrow I plan on either a long bike ride or run. One or the other. It will be early in the morning because it's supposed to get real hot outside. The marathon training goes on.

1:00:31
I ran the 8-Mile race today in a time of 1:00:31. I had set my over/under finish at 1 hour. My biggest hope was to finish under an hour but that didn't happen. Since I wasn't wearing a watch and there were no pace clocks on the road course, I didn't know what my time was until I arrived at the finish line. It wouldn't have made a difference because I was going all out throughout the race. I remember hitting the wall at Mile 5. Some of those hills were taking a toll on me. But in Mile 6 I could feel myself with a second wind and even began to pass a few runners. I almost didn't run this morning. The rain was coming down hard a few hours before the start and the idea of running in those conditions didn't trill me. I also wasn't feeling all that good. I had stomach cramps. In the end, I did go and I'm glad. It never rained during the race and the sun came out in the last mile. I think it was the 4th of July.

8-Mile Race
Tomorrow I'll run in an 8-Mile race and it looks like there will be rain in the forecast. I've run several races this year and they've all been dry. The only race I had with bad weather was the Manhattan Half Marathon in Central Park back in January. It snowed that morning so they turned it into a "Fun Run" I made up my mind it was too dangerous with the slippery conditions for me to jog around so I split. The one thing that could stop the race tomorrow is if we have lightning. They'll most likely run it in the rain. I've had my pasta dinner so now all I have to do is get some rest. Goodnight.

Finishing Touches
I did run 7 miles today and I plan on doing an easy 3-Mile jog tomorrow. Then I should be a coiled spring for the 8-Mile race on Wednesday. Tomorrow I'll be driving to Norwalk, CT for work related things. The Summer rolls on.

Getting The Led Out
Last night I saw a Led Zeppelin cover band. I thought they were really good. They did an interesting set list of songs. That's what I like about tribute bands, there is so much material to choose from that you never know what they will play. My favorite song of the night was WHEN THE LEVEE BREAKS. The Jimmy Page player had a few guitars including a double neck with 12 strings. He played THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME on it. They did at least one song from every album with the exception of IN THROUGHT THE OUT DOOR. The vocalist could hit the Robert Plant scream and he played the harmonica. the rythmn section was tight. I love tribute bands.
