Philadelphia

Grace & I have been in Philadelphia for the past couple of days. Tomorrow I run the marathon. The weather has been great. Quite warm for this time of year. That will all change by the start of the race. It's going to be cold & windy. A real shock to the system. I feel ready and hoping to run my fastest marathon to date. The over/under is 3:53:42. That's my time from 2010 when I ran the New York City Marathon. This personal record has held up for 6 years. It would be nice to set a new record. I'll let you know tomorrow.

 In all fairness to myself, I did run 4 miles this morning and took a long walk this afternoon on the same route. That said, I did watch plenty of sports on TV today. Haven't had the chance to do that much with my work schedule. Nice to had a Sunday to relax.

Work Day Off

Yesterday I had the day off from work but there were a few important things I needed to do. Now I'm at work today. 

Taper Down

It's time for me to taper down marathon training. Philadelphia is 3 weeks away and now I need to save up my energy. The long runs are done and I feel ready. Time to tone up too.

Long Training Run

Tomorrow I plan to do my last long distance training run. The Philadelphia Marathon is 3 weeks away and I'll be tapering down. Now it's time to see this through.

I bought a board game called Hotel Tycoons. I play it as work exercise. The strategy helps me with my day job. Multi task for the mind. That's how I work & play.

When At Work

Newark, New Jersey

Today was the first time I ever visited the city of Newark, New Jersey. I had business to take care of there. I've flown out the local airport on several occasions though.

Hoboken Train Terminal

Yesterday there was a train crash at the Hoboken Terminal that killed one person and injured scores of others. It turned out the one person who died wasn't on the train but standing on the platform. The day before the crash, I was in that terminal and jogging on the platform. I go through there when I'm doing my marathon training. It's crazy how things happen.

I've had my car off the road for about a year because where I live the parking situation is bad. The good thing is I don't need one when I'm there with all the mass transportation around me. However, I do want to have my car available when I need it. The only thing I have to get is a battery. Then I can get it on the road again.

I actually have Labor Day off. Yesterday Grace & I went to New York City. We walked the High Line, visited Ground Zero, took a tour of Fraunces Tarvern, had dinner in Little Italy and shopped in Chinatown. Quite a Labor Day Eve.

20 Miles

Ran 20 miles this morning. My marathon training is strong. I want to run a personal record this year.

It feels like the people who work for me are in charge. Must be nice  for them.

Back Home

I'm back home after being away for a couple of days. Did a lot of yard work in the country and I feel tired today. Back at my other job tomorrow. 

In The Country

Good to be in the country today. Mowed an acre of grass and ran several miles. Great way to spend the day.

A Double

I ran two training sessions today. One in the early morning and the other in the late afternoon. Putting the work in. 

Increase

I've been gradually increasing my distances for training runs. All leading up to the Philadelphia Marathon in November.

Long Training Run

Ran a very long distance practice run this morning. Didn't expect to run so far but I was motivated. It was tough near the end given this heat wave we have. That's O.K. For me.

Older Songs

During my practice sessions on bass guitar I've been running through a bunch of my older songs. Some of these were written three decades ago. It brings me back to those times. Never knew writing songs could be like reading a diary. Pretty amazing stuff.

Took my bass to Sam Ash in New York City this morning. It needed an adjustment and the tech was able to fix it in a couple of minutes. They treat me so well there.

Late Afternoon Running

For the last three days I've gone out and run in the late afternoon. My training run has schedule has changed since working early morning hours. It was difficult for me to run after work but I've adjusted. My mindset has changed and I'm very motivated for marathon training. Keep it up!

Tuesday has historically been my least favorite day of the week. Now with my new work schedule it lives up to that reputation.

2 Distance Runs

I ran two longer distant training runs In a row. I hadn't done that since the Winter. 

Marathon Training Now

I've now started my Philadelphia Marathon training. The race takes place in November. This will be the 2nd year in a row I'm running it. My hope is to run my fastest marathon to date. One big change from last year is that they won't be running the Half Marathon at the same time. There were too many runners on the road. And it's not like they don't have enough marathoner running it. Philadelphia doesn't have the reputations like that of Boston or New York, but I see it finding its own place. Now I want to be in the best condition for this race and it begins now.

Take Charge

It's time for me to take charge of my work, finances, creativity and athletics.

Song A Month

My plan this year was to write a song every month. I want to have a dozen by the end of the year.  So far I'm on pace to do that. It's take me about a month on average to compose a song. This plan started when I realized that no new songs had been written since my rock opera "The Front Desk" and that was 5 years ago. A long drought for me. It was something I wanted to do so my plan was to take it 1 song at a time. Happy to say the plan is working out. Here is the list of song thus far in order of completion. Rough Day

It just wasn't easy today and things had a way of not working out. Here's hoping tomorrow will be different. 

Double Shift

I worked a double shift on my first day as concierge director. Time to get some sleep.

Ran very slowly this morning. Didn't have any speed. That's OK it felt steady out there. 

My First Day

My first day at the new building. It's a short turnaround since I worked late last night. Jumping right into it.

Today is my last day at the building I've been working in the past 15 months. When I started the building was empty and today it's now full. Tomorrow I go to a new location as Director. A big step up for me professionally.

Monday Start

Went out and ran this afternoon and I did it after work. That can be very difficult for me because I'm pretty tired after a day at the desk. It's been quite a climb since my foot pain had the best of me. I feel good now and ready to train. This was a nice way to start the week.

Last week I went to the podiatrist about my heel pain on my left foot. The doctor said it was my tendon called the plantor fasciitis needed to to be stretched and so I went about doing that. A week later I'm feeling much better. I've run the last few days in a row including an 11-Mile run this morning. It feels good to out there again.

Late Scratch

Tomorrow I won't be running in the Healthy Kidney 10K race in New York City because my left foot is sore. My back heel hurts when I step down on it. My left ankle is swelled up and I need to have a podiatrist look at it. This is the first time in all the years I've been running where I'm now on the injury list. I need to get it checked out.

Things go from one side to the other. 

AFC Ajax

AFC Ajax didn't win the Eredivisie League Championship today. If they won their game today, they would have taken the title. In fact, Ajax had the lead at Halftime, but they gave up a goal in the 2nd Half and didn't score again. Meanwhile, PSV did win their game and captured the League Championship. It was a heartbreaking way for Ajax to lose the title. So close and they controlled their own destiny. Don't celebrate until the game is over. 

Back Home

Grace & I are back home after going away yesterday. Back to work tomorrow.

Mom & Dad

Grace & I will be visiting mom & dad today for birthday & Mother's Day celebrations. We'll do it indoors due to the rainy weather. That's OK.

My Rickenbacker Bass

Big music day yesterday. Before I went to the concert of The Threws and The Last Conspirators, I went to Sam Ash Music Store and bought a lefty Rickenbacker Bass Guitar. It was old to me by Larrry Hartke of Hartke Amplifiers fame. What a great person. I've wanted this bass for so many years. They are rare to find and I'm so glad to have it. I look forward playing it.

Last Cons

Going to see the Last Cons tonight. The Albany gang is heading into Manhattan. Should be a blast.

Went To NYC

Grace & I went to New York City today and we did plenty of walking around. First went to the Yankees Clubhouse store and bought a couple of things including a baseball cap with the team logo on it. We went to a couple of music stores where I still didn't purchase a new bass guitar. Took walks through Time Square & Central Park. We had lunch at a vegan restaurant on the Upper East Side. Another fun day in Manhattan.

Ran 11 miles this morning. Didn't go quite as fast as I wanted to but the miles are uner my feet. Grace & I plan on going out to lunch later on. It's another day off from the office. 

Run & Fun

Today I have a day off from work. This morning I ran 5 miles and then got a haircut. A productive way to start the day.

My Weekend

I'll be off from work Friday and Saturday. My plan is to stay around my house. I've been away the last couple of weekends. Plenty of things for me to do right here.

Running Routine

It's been a couple of good weeks where my training runs have been productive. I need to keep the momentum going.

New Bass Guitar

I'm interested in getting a new bass guitar. A 5-String bass has caught my interest. It seems like there could be great possibilities with it. Especially when it comes to composing. However, I did see a left-handed Rickenbacker at the store last week and I've been looking for one for quite some time now. It's much more expensive the other bass. I'll have to think it over.

Another Week

I'm now into my new week ahead of me. I work 3 morning shifts and 2 evening ones. Somewhere I'll try fit in all the other things I want to do.

In 5 Weeks

In 5 weeks I'm registered to run a 10K race in Central Park, NYC. My over/under finishing time at 47 minutes. I need to do some disciplined training. Keep the momentum going.

Going To NYC

Grace & I are going to New York City today. The weather looks OK. Yesterday was her birthday, so today we'll celebrate. I don't have to go work today. Time to play.

I went outside this morning and the weather is great! Took a walk to the grocery store. This morning I was feeling sick. I feel better but it does wipe me out. I'll rest before going to work this afternoon.

Important Training Run

Today was an important training run for me. For the past couple of weeks, I've not been feeling well physically. The great thing about today was I felt strong and fast. I'll just keep it going.

Back At It

It's been a slow start to my 2016 exercise training. Not a surprise what with the weather. Today was my first run outside since the blizzard on Saturday. It felt good and I'm back at it.

Glenn Frey died yesterday. In 1992 I was working the bass guitar in the opening act for Glenn. I was a big fan of his. Grew up listening to The Eagles and then his solo work. He's a Classic Rock legend!
