Happy new year!!!

Hangover Half Marathon

Tomorrow I'll run in the Hangover Half Marathon in Albany, New York and my over/under finishing time is 1:45:00. I ran it last year and did pretty well. My training has been good so we'll see how it goes. Happy New Year!

2014 In Review

2014 is coming to an end and it's been quite a year. The creative process was strong. Did some gigs and made some artwork I'm proud of. My professional life was weak. The Hospitality results have to be better. My athletic life was O.K. Ran 2 marathons in under 4 hours. Tried to stay physically fit throughout the year. My personal life was great! I met Grace!! Here's hoping for an even better 2015.

New Years Race

It my plan to run the Hangover Half Marathon in Albany, New York on Thursday. Training has been good and I hope to run good time. I ran this race last year. I'll have one more training run tomorrow. Time for bed.

Seattle Sonnet

Tonight I'm going to the Poet's Speak Loud Series at McGeary's in Albany. There is an Open Mic and I plan on reading my poem SEATTLE SONNET. 

Monday Running

The Hangover Half Marathon is on New Years Day and I don't know if I'll run or volunteer. It all depends on my training over the next few days. If the race is in need of help then I'll help out. I'm running this morning.

Went out and ran 7 miles this morning. I haven't been running as much as I've wanted to. It's more stress related than anything. I plan on 2015 to be a very good fitness year. that is my hope.

I went out and ran 5 times for 36 miles this week. The Winter training has begun.

Out Tomorrow

No training exercise run today. Only weights & stretching. Tomorrow I'll do my 8 miles of running. That will get me over 30 miles for the week . Just where I want to be.

The Montreal Marathon is looking attractive to me next year. They run it at the end of the Summer and I've always wanted to visit that city. It motivates my fitness training.

Philadelphia Marathon 2015

I'm leaning towards running in the Philadelphia Marathon next year. It's a Fall marathon and it just seems to be adding up for it. We'll see how it goes.

Running Around

I do need to go out and run today. It's sunny but very cold outside. I want to get 30 miles under my feet this week. 

Not Easy

Things have a way of not working out. Quite a challenge for me right now. It's looking like the New Year will be very different from the old one. That's how it goes. 

Real Challenges

I'll be faced with some big challenges for what's left for the rest of the year. Work, home, family & friends create a difficult dynamic to balance. Most of us have to do this and I do too. We'll see how it goes. 

New Month

Tomorrow is December and there is plenty to be done. All kinds of works and all kinds of things. That's what needs to be done.

Thanksgiving 2014

Today I don't work but it feels so busy for me. There are the family things to do and 6 inches of snow is on the ground which means I'll be cleaning that up. Crazy stuffing for me in my head.

Monday Night Sonnet

Last night I was at McGeary's in Albany where I read a sonnet I wrote back in 2004. It went over really well. The poetry reading was
in the back room of the bar where it always is. The other part of the bar had Buffalo Bills fans who were watching the football game on TV. There was plenty of activity to go around.

Last night, I went to a poetry reading featuring Mike Jurkovic. It was great to hear him speak. I took part in the Open Mic and did a version of FOXHOLES OF HOLLYWOOD & A HALLOWEEN PARTY.

Jack Bruce

Jack Bruce died a couple of days ago. He was one of the greatest bass players. His ability to improvise was just amazing. His vocals and song writing were also fantastic. Thank you jack!

A Dozen Days

Today was the first time in 12 days where I actually ran. It felt really good. I just shut it down after the marathon a dozen days ago. More of a mental thing than physical. It felt like a real beginning out there. The future is out there and it starts now.

Drawing & Running

The rain stopped so I'll go out and run this morning. I plan on drawing too. It was good to scribble with color pencils last night. 

Run Shut Down

I haven't done any running since the marathon 2 weeks ago. It was my plan to go out there and get a few miles under my feet, but I let the cold, pouring rain be an excuse not to. Don't think I've gained any weight, yet I do feel way out of shape. It was a mixed bag concerning the 26.2 miles of race I ran this month. Managed not to get any club Grand Prix points in the marathon. Not to mention being completely out of contention for qualifying for Boston. I'll have to change my training for next year if I'm  going to finish with faster times. My fastest marathon was back in 2010. I'm at that point where now is the time. I'll try to start tomorrow.

Grace & I took a walk into Hudson Park this afternoon. It was very beautiful.

I just don't know what I'm doing sometimes. It feels like I can't stay the course. I'm a quitter when I don't want to do something. That's just how It is. I can't help it. In the end, it's just my doing.

Great Barrington

Grace & I went to Great Barringtin, MA today. It was the Autumn thing to do. I really do love it out there. I couldn't remember how to get to the hotel I used to work at. I finally found it. We had fun.

Grace Weekend

Grace is coming to visit me this weekend. I will make her my Italian Noodles tonight and tomorrow take her for a ride into the New England countryside. I hope she enjoys it. 

Marathon 2015

Having run 2 marathons this year, I was thinking about where I want to run one next year. Over the past 10 years, I've run 17 marathons. All have been in & around the New York Metropolitan area. It is my plan to run a marathon in 2015 outside the United States. Just to mix it up a bit. 

Feeling Better

My nose is a bit stuffy, but at least my throat isn't sore. I just didn't feel good yesterday. I feel better today. Hopefully I feel even better tomorrow. 

Head Cold

Didn't feel good today. My nose & throat are part of this head cold I have. It just drained me of my energy. I'll get some more sleep tonight. 

A Cold

I feel like I have a cold. My throat is sore and my nose is runny. I didn't get sick all Summer. Here comes the cold in more ways than one.

Mohawk Hudson River Marathon

Today's marathon was very similar to the marathon I ran back in August. For the first 22 miles, I was on a personal best time to finish. But the last four were much slower. My finishing time was 3:55:57. The good thing is that this is my third straight sub 4-Hour marathon finish. I plan to run one marathon next year and train method acting style. I have to do it.

Expo

I'm going to walk down to the expo where I'll pick up my bib for the marathon tomorrow. It's become an Autumn tradition.

Lunar View

I did see the eclipse up in the sky this morning. The rain stopped and the clouds broke up.

It's close to 3 o'clock in the morning and the rain is falling down pretty good out there. If it doesn't clear up fast, then it looks as if I might miss the Lunar Eclipse going on outside. I could fall back to sleep too.

Troon Uniform

So my marathon outfit is set. I'm wearing it in the tradition of the Beverwick Patroon's orange, black & blue color scheme. Today, I bought a running cap that is black with blue trim. I also purchased orange socks. This will go along with my orange with blue trim singlet and black shorts. There's your 2014 Troon uniform.

Monday Start

Anniversary Race Result

I ran the Hudson-Mohawk Road Runners Club Anniversary Race in 43:43. The running distance was 5.9 miles. I also received Club Grand Prix points. A good day indeed!

Tomorrow I plan to run in the HMRRC Anniversary Race. The distance is 5.9 miles. It is a Grand Prix Club Race too. I hope to get some points. My over/under finishing time is 45 minutes.

Moon Festival

Spent the last couple of days with Grace where we celebrated the Moon Festival. On Monday  night, we were on the New Jersey side of the Hudson River that has a great view of Manhattan and the 2 beams of light that mark the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center were on. Tomorrow is 9/11.

20 Miles

Went out and ran 8 miles this morning.  It was my plan to only run 4 miles but I felt like going longer. I need to get a long distance practice run in by the end of the weekend. My 2nd marathon of the year is next month. Keep on training.

Fall Tour 2014

I've been thinking about booking some gigs this fall. I could play from a variety of things. It would take plenty of work to pull off though. I don't pursue it much because people out there seem to indicate that they really don't care about it. Oh well, I'll just stay home and entertain myself with my music.

Took a walk this afternoon. Hot & humid out there. Just the way I like it.

September Run

I went out and ran 4 miles this morning. I was going to run in a 5k Labor Day race but changed my mind when the online registration expired. Just moving on.

Pencil Impressionism

Really want to do landscape drawings. Been looking at Monet paintings and want to draw in the style. Organized my pencil carrying case. Always keep an eraser and a pencil sharpener. There's a new sketchbook that needs to have drawings in it. Only one way that happens. I make it happen.

Self-Transcendence Marathon 2014

Ran this race on Monday with my unofficial finishing time of 3:59:57. I'm pretty sure it's a few seconds under 4 hours. The emotions were all over the place during the run. At Mile-10, I wasn't feeling very good. But as the race went on, I started to get into a steady pace. By Mile-20, I'm entertaining the idea of a personal best time. But at Mile-22, I lost my speed. It was tough for me to except running another marathon over 4 hours. I could see the finish line about 50 yards away and I just tried to sprint as fast as I could. It looked to me like I made it just under 4 hours. I'll take it! It was an epic race. That's how it goes in a marathon. 

One Day Away

Tomorrow I run in the Self-Transcendence Marathon and my over/under finishing time is 4 hours. I'm in a good frame of mind for the race. I always feel a bit nervous about such a big event. I'm looking forward to the whole experience. This will be my 16th marathon. Soon I will have my pasta meal. time to give it all a rest.

More Hudson River

Took a long walk this afternoon and not off a short pier. I did go to the Hudson River. I've seen that big body of water from many different angles. Amazing to see it from here.

Went out and ran 8 miles this morning. The marathon is 6 days away. I'm just tuning up my body & mind for the event.

A Long Run

The Colonie Mile

On Tuesday the local running club has a race called The Colonie Mile. It would be the shortest race I'd run all year. If the weather is good, then I'll run it.

This day started after midnight when I left my job and drove downstate. Then I woke up in the morning and headed to my former hotel to get written references. Then I went to the job interview and it lasted about a half hour. I then drove to New Jersey spend the day with Grace. Epic day for me

The Sun is rising and I have a busy day. It would be in my best interest to get out there and run. I go to work this afternoon and then I'll drive downstate. More hotel related work tomorrow. Marathon training

I did a 2-hour training run. That's a half marathon distance. It's time to go long distance training for the marathons. My schedule change was doing this run so early in the week. This is the only way I can make it work.
